What is Body Tilt Laser Therapy?

Photobiomodulation therapy also known as PBM therapy uses wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects including improved healing time of injuries and wounds, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. PBM therapy is pain-free, risk-free and non-invasive.

First of all, it is important to make it clear that photobiomodulation therapy does not involve the kind of lasers that are used in laser surgery, which can destroy or cut tissue and often cause additional pain or burning. Body Tilt’s low-level PBM technology stimulates and activates cell regeneration and function.

PBM Therapy is a proven method of pain relief for patients and can also be used as post-operative therapy. Some conditions that can be treated by PBM therapy include:

  • Muscle, ligament and cartilage injuries
  • Nerve damage
  • Back, neck and other joint pain
  • Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Tendonitus
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Sports injuries

How Does Body Tilt PBM Therapy Work?

Body Tilt PBM therapy uses low-level PBM technology to project low intensity light onto broken bones, sprains, skin damage, external and internal injuries, and wounds, to stimulate and activate the body’s cells to accelerate healing by up to 50%.

First Steps of PBM Therapy

Once the source of damage or pain has been identified and isolated in an initial session of approximately one hour, most patients will only need around four to six 15-minute subsequent sessions to relieve pain and fast-track their injury or wound to recovery. The only potential symptoms of this treatment are thirstiness and sleepiness due to enhanced cell activity.

PBM Therapy to Relieve Pain

During PBM therapy the PBM light interacts with tissues at a cellular level, and metabolic activity increases within the cell, improving the transport of nutrients across the cell membrane, initiating increased production of cellular energy. During each pain-free treatment, PBM energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients then transporting them to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.

Pain-Free Low-Level Lasers

Body Tilt’s low-level laser is a handheld device about the size of a standard flashlight. It’s placed directly over the injured area for anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated and the dose decided by the physician and provided by the unit. Light is emitted from the laser and passes through the skin, penetrating 20-55mm below the surface to the source of pain, injury or damage, or directly onto the skin surface for external wounds or injuries.

What are the Benefits of Body Tilt PBM Therapy?

Clinical studies and trials of laser therapy technology indicate the following beneficial effects of low-level laser light therapy on tissues and cells.

  • Accelerated Tissue Repair & Cell Growth
  • Faster Wound Healing
  • Reduced Fibrous Tissue Formation
  • Anti-Inflammation
  • Anti-Pain (Analgesic)
  • Improved Vascular Activity
  • Increased Metabolic Activity
  • Improved Nerve Function
  • Immunoregulation
  • Trigger Points & Acupuncture Points

Accelerated Tissue Repair & Cell Growth

Photons of light from lasers penetrate deeply into tissue and accelerate cellular reproduction and growth. The photobiomodulation  increases the energy available to the cell so that the cell can take on nutrients faster and get rid of waste products. As a result of exposure to laser light, the cells of tendons, ligaments and muscles are repaired faster.

Faster Wound Healing

Photobiomodulation stimulates fibroblast development (fibroblasts are the building blocks of collagen, which is predominant in wound healing) in damaged tissue. Collagen is the essential protein required to replace old tissue or to repair tissue injuries. As a result, photobiomodulation therapy is effective on open wounds and burns.

Reduced Fibrous Tissue Formation

Photobiomodulation therapy reduces the formation of scar tissue following tissue damage from cuts, scratches, burns or surgery.

Anti-Inflammation

Photobiomodulation therapy has an antiedemic effect as it causes vasodilation, but also because it activates the lymphatic drainage system (drains swollen areas). As a result, there is a reduction in swelling caused by bruising or inflammation.

Anti-Pain (Analgesic)

Photobiomodulation therapy has a high beneficial effect on nerve cells which block pain transmitted by these cells to the brain and which decreases nerve sensitivity. Also, due to less inflammation, there is less oedema and less pain. Another pain blocking mechanism involves the production of high levels of pain killing chemicals such as endorphins and enkephalins from the brain and adrenal gland.

Improved Vascular Activity

Photobiomodulation therapy will significantly increase the formation of new capillaries in damaged tissue that speeds up the healing process, closes wounds quickly and reduces scar tissue. Additional benefits include acceleration of angiogenesis, which causes temporary vasodilatation, an increase in the diameter of blood vessels.

Increased Metabolic Activity

Photobiomodulation therapy creates higher outputs of specific enzymes, greater oxygen and food particle loads for blood cells.

Improved Nerve Function

Slow recovery of nerve functions in damaged tissue can result in numbness and impaired limbs. Photobiomodulation therapy Laser light will speed up the process of nerve cell reconnection and increase the amplitude of action potentials to optimise muscle action.

Immunoregulation

photobiomodulation has a direct effect on immunity status by stimulation of immunoglobines and lymphocytes. LT is absorbed by chromophones (molecule enzymes) that react to PBM light. The enzyme flavomono-nucleotide is activated and starts the production of ATP (adenosine-tri-phosphate), which is the major carrier of cell energy and the energy source for all chemical reactions in the cells.

Trigger Points & Acupuncture Points

Photobiomodulation therapy stimulates muscle trigger points and acupuncture points on a non-invasive basis providing musculoskeletal pain relief.

History, Background & Evidence

Photobiomodulation therapy has been used widely in Europe, the US and Australia by physical therapists, nurses and doctors for the past 50 years. Thousands of published studies have demonstrated the clinical effectiveness of laser therapy.

Proven Pain Relief

Since the 1970s, pain-free low-level laser therapies have been used by physicians on patients looking for an effective alternative for pain relief. There have been over 2,500 clinical studies published worldwide, and more than 100 rigorously controlled studies have documented and proven the effectiveness of laser therapy for many conditions including pain relief.
